Hong Ju-Ran

Abstract
The client of this study, who is a bilingual 4-year-old boy and living in the United States of America (USA), behaved aggressively toward his parents and peers mainly due to exposure to domestic violence. This study was conducted in individual and group play therapy. In individual play therapy, the therapist helped the client express his internal anger and anxiety, and thus he could reduce his anxiety and aggressive behaviors and improve his parent-child relationship and peer relationships. In group play therapy, the therapist helped the client learn desirable interaction and social skills. The results indicate that play therapy is effective for a bilingual child who is aggressive mainly due to exposure to domestic violence by decreasing his anxiety and aggressive behaviors and by improving his parent-child relationship, peer relationships and social skills.
